Electric Lawn Mowers

!±8± Electric Lawn Mowers

Electric lawn mowers are a lot more popular than you might think. Electric lawn mowers are great because they are light, efficient, and environmentally friendly.

"Does it come with someone who will do the mowing?" Not exactly, but that seems to be all that this Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog 12 Amp 19-Inch Electric Mulching Mower with rear bag lacks. The reliable electric start motor will not allow make enough work for you to develop a coveted "six pack" abdomen either.

Environmentalists will love these electric lawn mowers with purring motor that is soothing rather than ear splitting like power lawn mowers of the past. One reviewer mentioned that he could hear the birds singing above the low sound from his electric lawn mower. The traditional spark plug is not present with this lawn mower and neither is the need to keep an eye on gas levels for refilling at the most inconvenient places.

To bag or not to bag, that is the question! Yes, you may choose to collect lawn clippings in the bag that is included with the electric lawn mowers or to let those clippings naturally mulch and fertilize your lawn. This is both good for the environment as well as your billfold since you won't need to purchase fertilizers that may be unhealthy for humans as well as pets.

Reviews are generally quite positive regarding these electric lawn mowers. One review did state the obvious which is to always make certain that the electric cord is kept out of the way of the cutting blades or the human mower may become a crispy critter.

In many ways, the Black & Decker LM175 18-Inch 6.5 Amp Electric Mower is similar to the MM875 above. It has a slightly less wide cutting path the option of bag or no bag. This electric mower is about 30 pounds lighter that the MM875 which many make it a bit easier for older children and smaller adults to handle with ease.

One reviewer returned to the electric cord and the need to be aware of its position during mowing. This gentleman mentioned beginning at the electrical outlet and carefully working his way away from that point of origin. His additional comment was that trees, bushes, shrubs and others may entangle the electric cord and recommended increased awareness of the power cord in those situations.

What will they think of next? A flip handle, can you imagine? Yes indeed, the flip handle electric mower reduces time and energy wasted in trying to turn the mower around to cut the next row of grass. This wonderful feature is found on the Black & Decker MM675 Lawn Hog 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Mulching Mower, Flip-Handle electric mower. This feature, like the reduced weight of the LM175 makes mowing easier for older children or smaller adults who might otherwise struggle with a heavier mower that needs to be manually turned.

One reviewer commented on the ease of height adjustment of the handle. He is over 6 ft. tall and states that he has never found an electric mower that adequately adjusts to his height. Over all, reviews have been positive for all three of the electric lawn mowers previewed here. The general comments seem to be reflected in the old saying, "try one, you'll like it."

How To Choose Your First Table Saw

!±8± How To Choose Your First Table Saw

Shopping for your first table saw can be very confusing due to the huge selection available. Table Saws come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and are designed for a wide range of applications. Buying your first table saw shouldn't be an ordeal, with a few tips, anyone can choose a table saw that will give them many years of reliable service.

Here are some tips on choosing your first table saw.

Fence: The fence is the sliding part of the table saw. The fence is used when you feed the wood onto the saw. The quality of the fence will factor in on the final cost of the table saw. The higher quality of the fence that comes with the saw, the higher the price. Most contractor saws have average quality fences, but not all. For normal applications, an average quality fence will be more than enough for most applications and certainly good enough for the occasional user. Average quality fences are okay for beginners and weekend handy men, but will lack the quality that a cabinet maker needs. You have plenty of choices in third party fences so don't loose sleep if your saw comes with an average fence. Tilt: Some table saws tilt for precision cutting. Table saws tilt right or left. Back in the day, table saws only came with a right tilt with the exception of some professional cabinet models. These days, you can get right or left tilting table saws. Right tilts are easier cutting precision angles and preferred by many. Right tilt saws are the most popular and come with more accessories than left tilt table saws. Miter gauge: Table saws come with something called mitre gauges. There are two slots that are machined into the cast iron tabletop where the mitre gauge is inserted. This is where you guide the wood. Just as with the the tabletop, the mitre gauge that comes with the saw are of average quality. You can buy better mitre gauges than what come with the table saw. Try inserting the mitre gauge into the slots and check to see how snug they fit. Do not choose one with a loose fit. You want one that fits snug. Size Matters: The most common table saw motor is either a 1 1/2 or 2 horsepower motor in the contractors models. The professional cabinet saws use a 3 to 5 horsepowered motor. For most applications, the 1 1/2 or 2 horsepower motor on the contractor saw has enough power for any cutting application. Just remember to take it slow and easy and let the saw blade do the cutting. Saw blade: 10 inch blade models are the most popular, however, many of the most expensive cabinet saws have a 12-inch blade. The type of blade is more important than the size. Table saw blades come in a variety shape and types. Combination blades are the most popular and the ones you should use until you become more experienced in the operation of the table saw with different types of wood and cuts. It's very important that you keep your blades clean and replace them when they get dull. Tabletop: The tabletop is the most component part of the saw. You'll find a wide difference of quality among tabletops. Don't scrimp on the table top, it pays to buy a high quality tabletop. Make sure the tabletop is as flat as possible if you want trouble free operation. Not all tabletops are flat and the ones that aren't make it difficult to make precision cuts. You can reduce your chances of future problems by going with a tabletop from a reputable table saw manufacturer.

With these tips, you should be more than able to choose the correct table saw for nearly any application you can think of. Just be sure to study the owners manual and any related documentation that comes with your new table saw. The manufacturers don't put those documents in there just to have something to do! Table saw manuals can be an invaluable source of information.

The Black & Decker NPP2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw - A Review

!±8± The Black & Decker NPP2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw - A Review

When I first got my hands on the Black & Decker NPP2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw I jumped to a few conclusions. The first, there is no way that a cordless electric pole chainsaw will have the power to chop through the tree limbs I had set up for it. The second, This chainsaw is going to be heavy and uncomfortable. The third thing I thought was that this electric chainsaw will be broken before my review day was over. Well, I was pleasantly surprised with this little guy!

Lets discuss the power of the Black & Decker NPP2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw. It comes uses a 18 - volt Nicad battery to power the 8 inch cutting bar. I followed the instructions and made sure the battery was fully charged first. Then I took it to work. I had a lot to cut and I was really trying to test the limits of this chainsaw. I got through about 30 limbs that ranged between 1 inch and 3 inches before the battery started showing any signs of letting up. At no point did the saw seem to be strained or working over time. It just kept powering away.

Now on to the weight of the saw. It can extend to 14 feet and it is listed as weighing 7.6 pounds. The heaviest part is by far the battery which is good because that's usually at the base when you are working with it. The saw did not become flimsy as I expected when it was fully extended. The motor near the top of the saw is not overly heavy and it does not get in the way either. I think the fact that this day was close to 90 degrees made it seem a little heavier to me but yard work is yard work.

The Black & Decker NPP2018 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw turned out to be a lot more durable that I had originally expected. After it was doing so well with the limbs I was cutting I tried to push it a little. I found a big branch that needed to come down. This was about 4 and a half inches. This was the only time that the saw ran into some trouble. Like I said I was pushing this electric chainsaw to its limits.

Overall, the Black and Decker electric pole chainsaw far exceeded my expectations. The one thing I did not like was feeling a little bit of a lack of control when cutting in fully extended mode. This could have been my fault though. Everything else this saw claims it can do was not fluff at all. If you have a few small to medium sized tree limbs that need pruning this electric chainsaw is the perfect addition to your garage.
